The 1st Cambridge victory after 4 past consecutive Oxford wins. But not without drama!
3 boats participated this year, with Cambridge entering 2 crews. Aggressive steering by both Oxford and Cambridge A saw them clashing blades and eventually stuck about half way down the 1500m course. The umpire had to “untangle” them and restarted the race but Cambridge B managed to sneak to a victory.
The video evidence pointed to Cambridge A’s fault. Let off with a warning, the umpire called for a re-row after all 3 crews agreed. In the re-row, Cambridge A managed to cross the finish line 2 boat lengths ahead of Oxford in yet another thrilling race which saw some really aggressive steering. The Cambridge A crew of Chee Choun and Azli proudly received the winners trophy from President of Oxford Cambridge Alumni Malaysia Society, Ms. Margaret Hall.
Congratulations to the winners!
